I began following the progress of the Hobbit Hideaway’s natural build in its early stages, when I happened upon a post update detailing the construction of the roof. Made up of timber beams that circumvent the house’s round widow skylight, I was instantly hooked on the construction process, the building materials involved, and who was behind such a fantastic project.
Hartwyn Ltd. is the creation of Jeffery Hart and Joe Duirwyn, and specializes in sustainable building combined with education on natural techniques. Together with Rocket Architects and Get Rugged (Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation, SC044171), they designed and built a natural eco-friendly vacation home they’ve named the Hobbit Hideaway. The process was completed through free building courses they provided for those wanting to learn natural practices by allowing students to volunteer on site.
Check out Get Rugged’s Hobbit Hideaway video below to learn more about the process involved:
The Hobbit Hideaway has recently finished construction and is now open as a vacation rental. It is every bit amazing as it sounds! The Scottish landscape the home is tucked into also adds to its charm, and provides a number of outdoor activities nature lovers can enjoy. Being the Tolkien fan that I am, the idea of being able to stay in a Hobbit house I know was created using sustainable methods, is beyond exciting, and I’m terribly jealous of those of you who get to visit. Be sure to check out the links below for further information, and let us know if you are able to visit (so we can live vicariously through you lucky vacationers).
