Weta Workshop has released a new piece in their ever-expanding Lord of the Rings Collection. Their Gold Plated Tungsten Carbide replica of The One Ring was created and designed by Jens Hansen, a New Zealand Gold and Silversmith who created the original Ring for the films.
This is super exciting, largely because the price of $99 USD is affordable, or at least, within reasonable wishing parameters.
It’s because of the Tungsten Carbide that they can keep the price down, but it’s better than just a cost saver. My husband’s wedding ring is made of the same material, and when we first felt how heavy it was, we both said, “It feels like The One Ring!”
Included with the price is the wooden box pictured above, but the Sterling Silver chain that was also designed by Jens Hansen, comes at an additional cost.
Weta’s website emphasizes that it is very important to get the sizing right if you intend on wearing the ring. Tungsten cannot be re-sized. In fact, when we were buying my husband’s ring, the saleswoman said she felt secure with my husband’s geeky computer job. If he had been a mechanic, she said, she wouldn’t have let us buy the ring! The reason being that if his finger had ever gotten injured or swollen, the only things that could cut through the ring would cut through his finger before they could stop it. So, you know…keep that it mind.
Being a ringbearer is not without its perils, but at least in this case, it’s economical.
