The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring concert in Singapore is almost here! The organizers from the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra (MFO) have announced that the technical setup for the “Event of the Year” is near complete. The concert will be held at The Star Theatre, The Star Performing Arts Centre.
During a press conference held today at The Star Loft, The Star Performing Arts Centre, the orchestra introduced members of the touring party along with key contributors to the event. The panel consisted of the MFO’s Music Director, Maestro Chan Tze Law, American composer/conductor Maestro, Justin Freer, MFO’s Executive Producer, Dr. Kevin Koh, Boy Soprano, Samuel Yuen, Presenting Partner Credit Suisse Representative, Benjamin Cavalli along with Technical Supervisor, Jeffrey Markowitz via Skype-call.
“MFO is very proud to be part of the evolutionary journey of orchestras, heralding a new pathway for the enjoyment of orchestral music; it must be hard to imagine how the symphony orchestra has grown in size over the last two hundred years and that the massive forces used in epic works by the great composers are now an integral part of such a successful film score. And who would have thought this could be performed live here in Singapore?” says Markowitz.
Maestro Justin Feer, happy that such a monolithic and important film score will be performed in a part of the world that has not yet had the chance to experience it, says that it is both a humbling and rewarding endeavor. “It is with great excitement that I am part of presenting Howard Shore’s score to The Fellowship of the Ring live to film with the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra. I hope that all who experience this concert event are as happy to immerse themselves in the world of Tolkien as I am each time I step to the podium.”
Maestro Benjamin Cavalli, Managing Director and Market Leader for Singapore, Credit Suisse Private Banking said, “Credit Suisse is delighted to be the presenting partner of The Lord of the Rings – The Fellowship of the Ring, accompanied by the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, International Festival Chorus and the Young Voices of Vocal Associates. Cultural sponsorship is a longstanding tradition at Credit Suisse and an integral part of our corporate philosophy. At the same time, we have been doing business in Singapore for more than 40 years and Singapore today is our largest operating base in the region. Our support for the arts and culture in Singapore is therefore a continuing commitment. We hope that our support for this inaugural movie concert in Southeast Asia will contribute towards the continued development of a vibrant arts and cultural scene here.”
Interest in the event has run high in Singapore, with Facebook contests conducted by the MFO garnering an overwhelming response. Contest prizes included VIP concert tickets, complimentary Souvenir Programmes as well as exclusive passes to a closed-door rehearsal.
The exclusive Souvenir Programmes are available for purchase during the event. Each Souvenir Programme comes packed with special promotional vouchers offered by event partners Brotzeit, The Music Academia, iFly, Chan Brothers Travel, HMV and Creative Eateries. Each copy of the programme also includes a lucky draw form which allows concert-goers a chance to win a S$3,999 Travel Voucher from Chan Brothers Travel.
“MFO is thrilled to be able to bring in such a unique concert experience to Southeast Asia,” said MFO’s Executive Producer Dr. Kevin Koh. “The combination of the full movie being projected on a large screen that was specially made for this show, coupled together with live music is sure to create an amazing sensory experience for concert-goers.”
