The best part about being involved in a huge community of fans such as the Tolkien community is seeing the different talents and skills that various members possess. These particular folks use their unique perspectives and talents to enrich the entire community as a whole.
Ever since the first production photos from Peter Jackson’s new Hobbit Trilogy were released, it seems that dwarven brothers Fili and Kili have only continued to grow in their popularity. Many groups of fans have popped up all around the internet and they all want more. But where can fans of this dwarven duo get more? Enter Drew Casson. Casson is an amazingly talented filmmaker in Great Britain and is producing a new Tolkien fan-film called the “Tales of Fili and Kili.” The film follows the adventures of Thorin Oakenshield’s nephews Fili and Kili in their younger years.
Following in the vein of other remarkable Tolkien fan-films, Tales is set 30 years before the events in The Hobbit and is an “unofficial prequel” to Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy. Shot on a Canon DSLR, Tales promises to be an amazingly high quality fan work, just like one would expect from the Tolkien community.
Filmed on location in the Welsh countryside, stills that have been released on the film’s Official Facebook Page look very much like New Zealand. Tales is completely fan-made on a micro budget for absolutely no profit.
Don’t miss any updates! To learn more about the film, visit the Official Facebook and Tumblr pages. Additionally, you can follow Drew Casson on Twitter, Tumblr, and Youtube.
