It has been over ten years since Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy made its theatrical debut. Since then, a generation of fans has grown up falling in love with Tolkien’s Middle-earth again and again. On December 5th, 2013 at 2pm PST, Julien’s Auctions, a Beverly Hills based auction house will have rare props and costumes up for auction.
There will be 80 lots of memorabilia for sale so there is sure to be something to appeal to every sort of collector. According to Executive Director of Julien’s Auctions, Martin Nolan, “The Trilogy Collection: Props and Costumes from Middle-earth promises to be an epic event and one that will definitely make history,” Nolan goes on to say that the “…Quality of this remarkable collection is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity for fans and collectors”.
Some of the most interesting pieces in The Trilogy Collection include: Frodo’s famous sword Sting, Gimli’s battle axe, Gandalf’s staff, and Sam Gamgee’s prosthetic hobbit feet. Sting alone, is estimated to sell for $50,000 to $70,000, while the entire collection is expected to fetch up to $1.5 million.
