The world is indeed full of peril and in it there are many dark places.
But still there is much that is fair. And though in all lands, love is now
mingled with grief, it still grows, perhaps, the greater.
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings
A few days ago, the Haiyan super typhoon, considered to be the strongest storms in recent times, made landfall in the central Philippines. Thousands of people, forced to leave their homes, are struggling for survival. Now Sir Peter Jackson and other Kiwi personalities teamed up to help the typhoon victims by donating goods to the Trade Me auction.
According to the International Busines Times, “All proceeds from the sales of their items will go to Oxfam’s relief efforts for the Haiyan devastated region in the Philippines.” Among many other things donated by Kiwi musicians, boxers or companies, a deluxe DVD edition of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey signed by Sir Peter Jackson is up for auction. All auctions end on November 22nd.
If there is one thing that The Lord of the Rings taught me, than it is that with the help of many, positive change is possible. One does not have to be a mighty Gondorian warrior to help others in need. Instead, “even the smallest person can change the course of the future”. So why don’t you take a look at the auction? Maybe you find something for your loved ones?
