It’s time to pull out your wallets! Peter Jackson, the director of “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings,” is participating in an auction on Trade Me to benefit the charity Medicine Mondiale.
According to the Trade Me website, the winner of the auction will win a “’Top Secret’ extraordinary chance for two people to visit the closed set of the filming of The Hobbit in Wellington. It includes lunch with the cast and crew and a meeting with Sir Peter Jackson. Because of the confidential nature of the filming, this is a rare once in a lifetime opportunity.” The cost of airfare and accommodations will not be included in the prize and the visit must take place between February 6 and June 30 of next year.
The auction closes on January 9, 2012 at 8:30PM (keep in mind that there is a significant time difference between New Zealand and most other parts of the world). The bidding has already surpassed $1500, but Ray Avery of Medicine Mondiale hopes to raise $100,000 to fund nutrition projects in Nepal. Established in 2003, Medicine Mondiale manages a global network of scientific, clinical, and business experts who donate their knowledge and time to develop medical solutions which make quality healthcare accessible to everyone.
