An Eagle’s View of Middle-earth – June 30, 2014

We love this Tauriel/Kili artwork by Tumblr artist GivenClarity entitled ‘Starlight and Firemoon’! She also made this piece featuring Thranduil fighting in The Battle of the Five Armies among many others that can be found on her Tumblr page. (spotted by Middle-earth News contributor Myla)

The Hobbit has served as an inspiration for artists all over the world for over 75 years now. Some of these amazing pieces have been featured in a recently-released article entitled “Vintage Illustrations for Tolkien’s ‘The Hobbit’ from Around the World”. The article’s author, Maria Popova, has called it, “A visual voyage there and back again.” (spotted by Middle-earth News reporter Valdis)

These Custom Lord of the Rings/Hobbit Name Necklaces are hand-made by artist Katrina Pacific using polymer clay. She will carve whatever name or word you choose using Tolkien’s Elvish runes into the clay and then enhance it with paint. If you would like two or more words, she is willing to work with you if you send her a message. Susan made this incredible LOTR-themed birthday cake for her son!

Susan, owner of the popular Sole Searching Mama blog, went all out when her son decided he wanted to have a Lord of the Rings themed birthday party! She came up with a design for an “easy Lord of the Rings birthday cake”, made a Hobbit-hole entryway, placed “Elvish Elixir” labels on the soda bottles, and provided party guests with “Samwise Snack Mix” and “Gollum’s Goodies”. I think we can all agree that this is parenting done right! (spotted by Middle-earth News reporter Lily)
