Our very own Myla Malinalda is celebrating a birthday today! Myla is an indispensable part of the Middle-earth News team. She writes many news stories, covers special events such as New York Comic Con and the recent Lord of the Rings Concerts at New York’s Lincoln Center, and she creates wonderful graphics for all occasions.
To help the celebration of our dear Myla’s birth, we put together a sort of a poll and collected answers from the Middle-earth News team. Here is what we had to say to these Tolkien-themed questions about Myla!
Which Tolkien character does Myla most remind you of?
- Bilbo because she’ll join you on an adventure, is loyal, and has a fantastic sense of humor (Arwen).
- A hobbit for sure, but I don’t know who…probably young Bilbo! (Alice)
- This is so hard! I’m going to have to go with Frodo, because while Myla is very hobbity in that she would never seek the limelight, she works hard, does what must be done, and would like to see justice done in the world. (Lily)
- Pippin. (Evie)
- Merry or Pippin. Myla is a hobbit through and through. (Maria)
- Pippin! Myla is lively, bright, and energetic, but underneath there’s also a core as strong as steel and a heart as big as a hobbit’s appetite! But I also often have the picture of her wearing that look like the one on Denethor’s face when Pippin is swearing his fealty. (Valdís)
- Denethor. (Britta)
What would be the perfect birthday gift for Myla?
- An afternoon hangin’ with the designers at Weta. (Arwen)
- A horse ride with Aragorn. (Alice)
- Myla’s perfect birthday gift would be storytime with Old Bilbo. He might forget that he already told a certain part of the story and retell it, and instead of reminding him, she would listen just as attentively the second time around! (Lily)
- Looking through ‘There and Back Again’ with Bilbo at Bag End and eating afternoon tea together. (Evie)
- I imagine her and Bilbo sit together over a cup of tea and bisquits while looking through Bilbo’s Red Book of Westmarch and listening to Bilbo’s adventures. Either that or Myla has a tomato filled dinner with Denethor.
- Her very own hobbit hole in Hobbiton, preferably on Bagshot row near Bag End. That way she could visit Bilbo and hear stories any time she wants to. (Valdís)
- A lunch date with Jed Brophy, followed by a LOTR and Hobbit marathon with the entire News team.(Britta)
Who is Myla’s favorite cast member?
- Legolas. (Arwen)
- Jed Brophy, I know it for sure! (Alice)
- This is a tough one, because she’s always talking about how much she loves The Hobbit and LOTR casts. I think Myla’s favorite cast member would have to be Jed Brophy… I mean, he did come up with her favorite nickname! (Lily)
- Jed Brophy. (Evie)
- Hmmm, I think it’s Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd. (Maria)
- Jed Brophy. Definitely Jed. Very, very Jed. (Valdís)
- Jed Brophy. (Britta)
What is a one-word description of Myla?
- Creative. (Arwen)
- Hoarder 😀 (Alice)
- Thormato (Lily)
- Creative. (Evie)
- Hobbit. (Maria)
- Artistic. (Valdís)
- Hilarious. (Britta)
Which weapon would Myla choose for battle?
- Bow. (Arwen)
- Probably a shield, I can picture her throwing it like Xena’s weapons. (Alice)
- The obvious answer would be Herugrim because Myla loooooves that sword. But I don’t know that she would go for such close combat, if it came down to it, so I’m going to say Myla would choose Airbending. Wrong fandom? Yeah, but it’s the truth! 😀 (Lily)
- Sword (Evie).
- I think she’d pick Sting (Maria).
- This is tough. I see Myla as more of a “pen is mightier than the sword” sort. If faced with actual battle, I see Myla with a short sword. Sting if she could get it! (Valdís)
- Herugrim. (Britta)
Happy birthday, Myla, from all of your Middle-earth News family! May the hair on your toes never fall out, may you always have second breakfast, and may you live to pass the Old Took!
