Who would have thought that the little blog and Twitter account I started six years ago on January 12, 2011, would grow to the community we have today?!
I think I can speak for all the staff here when I say, one of the best things to have come out of our website is meeting all of you. Whether it’s been through a physical meeting at a convention, premier, or event, or through social media and the web, each of you has made an impact on our personal lives and how our site is run.
We have made it our mission to bring you Tolkien-related content that goes beyond just the films. That’s because Tolkien’s work has inspired fans in so many different facets. We’ve connected our shared love for all things Middle-earth through gaming, art, literature, cosplay, and even our day-to-day lives and how we view the world we live in.
Our combined passion for these things is what facilitated our fantastic community. That same passion runs deep within our staff, which is purely made up of volunteers. We’ve never been paid for any of the time, research, and love poured into our articles and interviews. Funds gained through advertising go straight back to website hosting, and if there’s extra left over, it’s used for contest prizes. I cannot help but praise each of our reporters for the phenomenal job they do!
What’s next from Middle-earth News? We recently switched to a new website host, which help put an end to our server issues. Designs are also underway for a major face lift on our site. We have also begun plans for our annual Middle-earth Movie Marathon, as well as Tolkien Reading Day. So, best start planning your movie marathon parties and stocking up on popcorn and lembas – there’s lots to come in 2017!
Many thanks to you all for your continued support and friendship. Cheers to six years, and may many follow!!
