Do you daydream about the imaginary food in books? Or maybe it’s not imaginary, and it just sounds singularly delicious. Youtube to the rescue! Now there is a series that walks you through the preparation of some of your favorite fantasy foods: Feast of Fiction. (Warning to viewers: there is some profanity in this video).
So far, Feast of Fiction has featured Sunlight Souflee (Skyrim), Butterbeer (Harry Potter), Minecraft Cake (Minecraft), Dragon Dumplings (Kung Fu Panda) and that particular Tolkien-fan favorite: Lembas Bread. Well, it’s an approximation of Lembas bread. Technically, it’s, well… it’s Bacon Lembas Bread.
This particular episode, you see, is co-hosted by bacon-obsessed Harley Morenstein of Epic Meal Time fame. True to the spirit of Epic Meal Time, Feast of Fiction hosts Ashley and Jimmy not only add chopped bacon to the lembas bread; they wrap it in bacon. What began as a sweet-sounding waybread was reinterpreted as a vehicle for sheets of piggy protein, with each serving weighing in at 90 grams of protein and 1300 calories. Did I mention that they also added protein powder?
Worry not, my friends, as the base recipe (even without the bacon bits) sounds like a tasty jumping-off-point for lembas bakers, with ingredients like nuts, oranges, and maple syrup. Do let us know if you try this out – whether wrapped in Mallorn leaves or woven sheets of bacon.
