AW! The Hobbit sculpture and billboard posters on the NZ Post Office building in Wellington are coming down today.
Work has already begun on bringing the plywood and cement silhouettes of Bilbo Baggins and dwarves down, with streets closed to traffic whilst the work goes on says The Dominion Post.
The sculpture, which was installed last October, has proved to be a big hit.
NZ Post sales and marketing manager Simon Allison said,
“It’s been hugely popular. We’ve had lots of feedback, especially in the internet space. At night it looks fantastic.”
He added that the sculpture would be broken down and most likely recycled and that there was never any intention to keep it as it was made from untreated wood.
