The Hobbit Audience Project at the University of Waikato in New Zealand is researching into the audience responses to The Hobbit trilogy. The research explores ‘…the complex relationships between modes of reception of spectacular blockbusters and viewers’ cultural, linguistic, social and discursive affiliations. It asks a number of important questions arising from the increasingly transnational nature of blockbuster film production and reception.’

Researcher Darren Elliot is looking at 3D and HFR perception by audiences of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug says Stereoscopy News. He wants to find out if ‘3D and HFR impact audiences immersion and perceptions of reality.’ Anyone who has seen The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug in HFR 3D format can take part by answering this on-line questionnaire.
