Collector’s Corner: New LOTR & Hobbit Boxed Sets to be Released

As I was browsing Amazon for Tolkien related books, as one does, I stubled upon two soon-to-be-released box sets containing Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and with Tolkien Reading Day just around the corner, I had to take a closer look.

The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings Boxed Set (Illustrated Edition)

This beautiful hardback boxed set of LOTR and The Hobbit is illustrated by Alan Lee and is set to be released on March 14th 2020 by Harper Collins. The price is 95,50€ or £75.00 on Amazon. I couldn’t find this one on the American Amazon, but if you’re on the hunt for it, the ISBN is: 978-0008376109.

I may be wrong, but I don’t think that I’ve seen the illutration on the cover of The Two Towers before.

If over 95€ is a bit too expensice for you, there may be another Boxed Set coming out soon that might spark your interest.

The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings Boxed Set

This paperback boxed set will also be released by Harper Collins and is coming out on April 30th, 2020. The ISBN is: 978-0008387754.

With a price of 30,87€ or £25.43 on Amazon, this one seems more accessible for readers who cannot or will not spend half a fortune on a boxed set. There are, unfortunately no individual images for each cover, but I love that these covers are so different from what I’ve seen in the past. They seem not to be images from the Peter Jackson Trilogies, or so it looks like on this one image, but they are not illustrated covers either.

As much as I love the illustrated boxed set, I can’t make up my mind if will get it or not. I already own the one-volume Centenary edition of The Lord of the Rings illustrated by Alan Lee. However, I can’t get my eyes off that beautiful, and somewhat minimalist, paperback boxed set.

What about you? Will you get any of these upcoming boxed sets?
